I spent a really amazing few days at Weaving by the Sea, Vilanova i la Geltrú this September, with other Travelling Weavers. This is a stunning place on the Costa Brava, 30 minutes from Barcelona.
I made an openwork oval basket with with Mai Hvid Joergensen. This type of basket is in the French style and is started by making a thick willow hoop, with fitched horizontal rods. After making the base we made two uprights from one rod for scalloming on to the base; the uprights are then also fitched, and a five rod border and traditional handle is then applied.
It was quite a challenging three days work, made really relaxing by the stunning beach; just a short walk from the hotel, and the delicious restaurants in this pretty town.
It was wonderful to meet so many new weaving friends from Spain, Chile, Venezuela, Turkey and Denmark among others.
