Exploratory Willow Weaving - two day workshops

Two-Day Workshops at the Rural Art Hub

Suitable for all levels of experience including beginners

Participants will be supported to learn the basics of traditional basket weaving technique or develop their existing skills in a creative and experimental approach. This will be an opportunity to develop individual designs, explore diverse weaving processes and materials and think through making.

• use different willows, which display individual colour and form

• incorporate other soft materials such as willow bark and gathered natural plant materials into the main body of a woven vessel

• think how recycled, non-natural fibres can be combined with more traditional materials

The workshops will be run by Sophie, who is an experienced basketmaker, having studied to Level 3 City and Guilds. Sophie creates unique traditional and contemporary willow baskets and is passionate about exploring new ideas within the craft. Committed to working sustainably, she grows and forages some of her own materials.  She will work alongside you to explore and develop your own creativity and ideas whilst patiently sharing her knowledge and skills in willow weaving.
